New Central Dining Hall

$29 million. Two-story. 90,744 Square Feet. Phase I of the new dining hall was finished in January 2009. Students have been most appreciative of the opportunity to dine in this beautiful new facility, which features Rivers Street Cafe (cafeteria) and Sanford Commons (food court). Phase II was completed in January 2010.  This phase included the completion of a rotunda, which provides additional seating to Sanford Commons.  The Central Dining Hall project concluded during the summer of 2010 with the completion of steps and walks, landscaping and an addition of green space to Sanford Mall.

Residence Halls

Doughton Hall, White Hall, Lovill Hall, Hoey Hall, Cannon Hall, Frank Hall and Cone Hall have undergone extensive renovations.  Students moved into Cone Hall in August, 2010.

New College of Education Facility

$33.8 million.  Five stories plus lower level.  124,547 s.f.  The project is complete.  Dedication of the building took place on August 18, 2011.

New Field House at Kidd Brewer Stadium

The construction of this multi-million dollar structure was completed in time for the opening game of the 2009 football season.

Additional East Side Stands and Bathrooms at Kidd Brewer Stadium

Additional seating and bathrooms were added to the stadium on the visitor's side.

These facilities were completed in time for the beginning of the 2009 football season.

Wind Turbine

As part of the student-funded Renewable Energy Initiative, a wind turbine has been installed near the rear of The Broyhill Inn and Conference Center with a height of 115 feet and a blade diameter of 66 feet. The estimated production of electricity is 150,000 kilowatt hours annually, which is enough to power 10 - 15 typical homes.

Boone Creek Restoration Project
 

This project is complete, and it was made possible by funding assistance from the NCDOT and the NC Clean Water Management Trust Fund.

Addition to Plemmons Student Union, New Residence Hall and Leadership Annex

Construction is well underway for these new facilities.  Phase III work, which is the bulk  of the project, began on March 14, 2011, according to schedule.  The residence hall work is scheduled to be completed by Summer 2012, while the Student Union addition will be completed Fall 2012.

Mountaineer Residence Hall

A modular system of construction was chosen for Mountaineer Hall.  Its construction took about one year.

Future plans are to expand down the hill towards the Student Recreation Center.

Beasley Broadcasting Complex

Construction has begun and should be complete by May 2012.  The site is located at the intersection of Rivers Street and Depot Street, at the location of the former bus depot.
